Debunking: Black Clover is just another Naruto

Asta training

I've seen a lot of posts like this one and I wanted to prove their falsehoods.

Black Clover is very different from Naruto.

Some of the people who post about this have these 3 arguments:

1) Asta and Naruto have similar backstories

Both Asta and Naruto are treated poorly by many others because of their talentlessness and unfortunate circumstances.

2) The female mages are Kunoichi rip-offs

In particular, they claim Noelle is like Sakura and is defending rather than being useful in the offense. Also that Mimosa is another Hinata.

3) Asta's motto is just a spin on Naruto's ninja way

Asta's magic being "never giving up" is just a spin on Naruto's ninja way to never go back on his words.

And also that Asta wanting to become the Wizard king is just like Naruto wanting to become Hokage.

All these arguments seemingly hold-up on a cursory glance, but they're actually very false in general.

Here's why

1) Asta wasn't shunned, he was part of a group of victims of prejudice

The Clover kingdom was a caste society and the Nobles and Royals often disparaged and mistreated those of a lower class. This is not similar to Naruto's circumstances at all because the Leaf villagers deliberately shunned Naruto directly.

Even in the Jiraya ninja Scrolls, when Naruto's still known as the son of the Hokage, the villagers try to hide their disdain and fear of Naruto by pretending to be kind while behind his back they talked poorly about him.

Asta, however, was shunned because he didn't have magic, and he was a commoner from a remote village far from the interior of the Kingdom. Asta, unlike Naruto, had friends right from birth and was always shown love from Sister Lilly and the Priest of Haj village.

Naruto would have loved to live the backstory Asta lived.

2) Noelle and Mimosa aren't useless or creepy

Noelle isn't Sakura. Noelle had talent and incredible magic but she hadn't learnt to control it well and unlike Sakura she was bullied and looked down on by her own siblings.

Noelle might have a temper, but she's not Asta's big sister in the same way Sakura treated Naruto: Noelle actually had a massive crush on Asta.

Also, Mimosa is not Hinata. Mimosa does like Asta, alot like how Hinata had a crush on Naruto but unlike the Hyuga kunoichi, Mimosa wasn't a creepy stalker.

Again, she's a useful mage who specializes in healing magic, unlike Hinata who had to master offensive jutsu to gain the approval of her father.

3) Asta is like Naruto, but that's where it ends

Instead of saying Black Clover is Naruto, I'd be willing to tolerate that Asta is like Naruto. They both have similar ambitions, albeit different motives. While Asta wants to become wizard king and show that your background doesn't determine your future, Naruto wanted to become Hokage to earn everyone's approval and admiration instead of their hateful stares.

Asta also doesn't give up, just like Naruto and they both have eccentric, quirky sensei but that's where their similarities end. And no other Black Clover character is a mapping from Naruto or its sequels.

In conclusion

It is best to avoid spreading false information based on superficial attempts at proving that Black Clover is a Naruto rip-off, because every claim can be debunked effectively.
